Volusia Interfaiths/Agencies Networking in Disaster, or VIND, is a Long Term Recovery Organization.

VIND’s mission is to assist residents of Volusia County, Florida with unmet needs after a disaster. Initially, we educate the public on disaster preparedness and damage prevention (which is called mitigation). Shortly after a disaster, we assist with emotional and spiritual needs of survivors and help find resources for their essential needs. In the long term, VIND helps to repair homes damaged by disaster to a safe, sanitary and secure condition.

We love the community in which we live. VIND’s board members, staff, and supporters share a passion for the return of wholeness within our county after a community related disaster. We network with faith-based organizations and civic groups, national and local government agencies, community business leaders, and caring individuals. You can be a part of that spirit of “unity in our community” too.

UNITY IN OUR COMMUNITY
What can you do?
DONATE, VOLUNTEER, PRAY!

Donate: As a not-for-profit long term recovery organization, VIND is primarily funded by grants. Monetary donations are always welcomed and tax deductible. Most importantly, all donations stay right here in Volusia County. Also welcomed are donations of food, tools, construction materials, office supplies, and sometimes even furniture or appliances.
• Sponsor a rebuild!
• Coordinate a fundraiser!
• Look up VIND on the internet

Visit our web site HERE and click on the “Help!” button
• If you go to the search engine www.goodsearch.com, which is powered by Yahoo!, and select VIND as your charity, VIND will receive a penny a search!
• VIND’s website also offers links to find us on other internet sources such as: Myspace, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube as well as an electronic newsletter to keep you informed and involved!

Volunteer:
• VIND uses volunteer labor on rebuild projects headed by a project manager on staff. This usually involves some construction skills; though cleaning, painting and yard work often are done as well. Some of our volunteers come here with a church mission group from other states or counties. Some local volunteers do a VIND day once a month---if every civic group or church volunteered a VIND day once a year, we would never have a need for outside volunteers!
• Organizing or helping with educational or fundraising events is always a needed skill.
• Telling everyone you can about VIND is perhaps the best volunteer effort we could ask of you. We get gifts and talents and clients with needs through word of mouth more than through any other resource.
• If you see a roof with a blue tarp that looks weathered, jot down the address and give us a call. We have identified many clients in this way!

Pray:
• Above all, VIND needs well wishes and prayers for all of the survivors of disaster. “Unity in our community” is more than a dream.
