VIND is out of funds for the My Safe Florida Home mitigation program and will not be receiving any additional funds from the state of Florida for this program.

Please call Volusia County's Office of Emergency Management at 386-254-1500 then press 1 for information on the County's My Safe Florida  Home mitigation program. They do have funds available for the matching grant program and for the low income portion of the grant as well.

If you or your neighbors are interested in the continuation of the My Safe Florida Home mitigation program, please write or email your State Representatives to encourage continuation of the My Safe Florida Home Mitigation program. Please share with them what this program means to you and your neighbors!!

The My Safe Florida Home program offers free wind inspections by qualified hurricane mitigation inspectors to eligible homeowners. Under the new law, the Department must prioritize and direct funds to homes located in the wind-borne debris region.

MITIGATION:

A fancy word defined as "Any action taken to permanently eliminate or reduce the long-term risk to human life, property, and function from hazards"........

In short, Mitigation is PREVENTION.
